the aurora police department to this incident. i want to thank the u.s. attorney's office and the attorney general's office for their support. with this many victims, we have two concerns. one is providing information that they need and providing resources they need. we will -- at this point in time victims should be contacting the aurora police department and looking for resources on the aurora police department website. as the case goes to court next week, they can contact -- we have set up a contact e-mail account so we can get information out as quickly as possible. we have resources available on our website. and i want to say that the aurora mental health center has agreed to stay open 24 hours a day for this weekend. people may feel fine now and may have a problem tomorrow. they may have a problem next week, several months down the line. but they should seek some counseling or resources if they have been victims. it's to be expected. if there are financial issues, that should not stop them. they should contact us for financial resources. we want to make sure we are getting out whatev

an apology over the border attack? or are they admitting that just yet? >> well, i haven't heard any u.s. officials say what secretary of state hillary clinton said was an apology. in fact, one senior u.s. official said only you in the media are calling this an apology. but secretary of state clinton did say that the u.s. is sorry for the fact that a u.s. air strike mistakenly killed 24 pakistan soldiers in a cross-border incident about seven months ago. the important thing here is that the pakistanis consider it an apology and have reopened the vital supply routes to provide those supplies to u.s. forces in afghanistan. and for the past seven months, they've had to use alternate routes, which has cost the u.s. an additional $100 million per month. so finally, these tensions have been put aside and the u.s. can get back to doing business with pakistan on a more congenial basis, i guess. and at a better, more fruitful relationship for the u.s. military certainly there in afghanistan, craig. >> let's go t iran now, mick. test-fired several missiles, commanders claim that some of the missil

tactic democrats like to use. this is no different. florida has a lot of seniors obviously. the swing state messages are going to be interesting and a little bit diverse i'm sure. the message wars begin pretty much it seems like in earnest today. we're going to have dueling messages, one with obama in florida and mitt romney in the northeast. romney is going to get down to florida, make his case for the people down there. this is a very tight election. obviously every vote matters. with the seniors out there, they vote. they watch. they pay attention to all this. it's still a little bit early to see how these messages are going to resonate amongst that particular voting bloc, but it's early. and we'll see how they develop as this thing moves away. >> rachel, the obama campaign continuing to attack mitt romney on the issue of his tenure at bain capital and also, of course, that refusal to release more than two years of tax returns. here's what romney had to say about those tax returns in an interview yesterday with an nbc ohio affiliate wnywo. take a listen. >> we're providing two year

sununu and governor romney are taking a page from his playbook of bringing up drug use and all of these other things that have nothing to do with jobs, when you talk with romney surrogates they say we don't want to talk about the tax issue because it has nothing to do with jobs. what does this strategy do in bringing over independents here? >> it's the last thing that mitt romney needs right now. and steve's comments really show one of the underlying liabilities of the romney campaign is they can't get enthusiasm with the far right without some of these incendiary hot -- without this hot rhetoric and can't win over independents with it. that puts the romney campaign in a bind. on top of that, you have the main argument they have as part of this tax release the tax returns discussion about what he's hiding and coming clean about his time the an bain is stop talking about me. don't pick on me. don't be negative by bringing up what i like to bring up about my own record. that's romney's response to this, but when they -- when you have john sununu using this incredible heated rheto

's the question of the insanity defense. at that arraignment, the defense will signal whether it attends to use the not guilty by reason of insanity defendase. the state will have the clock starting on the 60 days it has on decide whether it will seek the death penalty. and that's not an easy decision and only would be that will be made in consuin consultation wi victims and families. and because it's an important decision for them, so it won't be made easily or lightly. but the state will have 60 days to make that decision. if it's determined that the defendant is not cooperating with his attorney, not at all assisting in his defense, he'll be held over for psychiatric examinations with examiners both from the prosecution side and defense side probably sent to the state hospital in pueblo for those examinations. and if he continues to be nonresponsive, he can be given as happened in the jared loughner case in arizona psychotropic drugs to try to restore him to sanity so he can be ruled able to help in his defenses. so all those things are down the line. this morning was just the initial procee

romney has used the 1999 departure date to shield himself from claims that he was at the helm when that company allegedly drove companies into bankruptcy, laid off workers, outsourced jobs as well. we should note that one of the fact checkers that he mentioned put out a statement today saying a lot of these claims, citing with the romney camp. even if he wasn't at bain at the time of the outsource how much does all of this continue talk hurt his campaign? >> well, it certainly hurts the campaign and i will say one of those fact checkers is our checker here. you can see the romney campaign is lachg on to what these fact checkers have said and calling out the obama campaign for telling falsehoods. so far that doesn't seem to necessarily be working and certainly not enough in terms of what republicans want to see mitt romney put up, which is evidence of that he created jobs at bain and to really flush out what his record there was. but we can tell, i think, from this reaction that the romney campaign is take on some water around bain and you've seen this narrative particularly out of

europe where we're afraid that they'll pull us down with them. by coming forward now to say, give the middle income people of our country a tax cut, the president is saying to them, you will be able to have some money to spend. by the way, look at what that does for the middle class. it creates some certainty. the entrepreneurial class is not the only people who need certainty. they need certainty, of course, but who needs certainty more than anyone else? as i speak, it's the middle class because they've stopped spending. they've seen no response from congress to what is happening in europe and china and i believe that could cross the shore. the president is giving them an immediate sense of certainty and of remedy if the republicans would only come for that part of the tax cut where 100% of the congress is for, and that's the 250,000. you have great division when it comes to people who go above that because that gets to the upper middle class and even beyond. >> representative eleanor holmes norton, thank you so much for your time. >>> let me bring in our panel today, keith boyko

correspondent kristen welker is traveling with the president. she joins us live this afternoon from pittsburgh. we didn't hear the president talk about the jobs report until about ten minutes in this morning, kristen. it will be very interesting to see how long he waits to talk about those numbers in pittsburgh. >> reporter: yeah, it's a good point, craig. and we expect him to continue to try to put a positive spin on what is really a disappointing jobs report, when he takes the podium here in pittsburgh at carnegie mellon university. we expect him to tout what he sees as his accomplishments in the economy, including the auto bailout. that's something that really resonates with voters in nortrn ohio, which is where he was earlier today and yesterday. and of course, here in western pennsylvania. he'll also probably reiterate that statistic, that 4.4 million jobs were added in the private sector over the past 28 months. but, craig, it is really a tough sell, because in addition to the numbers that you talked about, if you look at the breakdown, and i think we have a graphic of some of

[ applause ] now, i've got to tell you, it would be one thing if they had this theory and we hadn't tried it before, but the truth is we tried it for almost a decade. and it didn't work. the track record of their vision resulted in turning surpluses into deficits. we ran two wars on a credit card. job growth was the most sluggish it had been in decades. the average wages and income of working families actually went down during this period and it culminated in this massive crisis. so i don't know about you, but in my life i found -- sometimes i do bone headed things, i make mistakes. what i find it when i try something that doesn't work, then i don't try it again. okay? [ applause ] >> you don't go back to doing something that didn't work. now, i've got a different idea. so for example, governor romney said he would extend the tax cuts for the wealthiest americans indefinitely. he says that until he puts a tax plan in place. but his tax plan is not just to keep all the bush tax cuts.

the places i used to travel in illinois. the first race i ran as a state senator, michelle and i had to xerox or go to kinkos and copy our flyers. we didn't have a tv budget back then. we rode around in my car, and i filled it up with my gas and i'm the one who got lost if i took a wrong turn. what's amazing, though, when i think about it was how many people you'd meet from every walk of life all across illinois in big cities, small towns, up state, down state, quads, you name it. and you'd always hear similar stories from people about their parents, their grandparents, the struggles they had gone through and how they had been able to find a job that paid a living age and to look after their families and their kids had done a little better than they did. those stories would resonate with me and michelle because that was our story. that was our lives. and then when i came to iowa for the presidential campaign, first stop, cedar rapids, first stop.
